Young girls and young women are at a higher risk of sexual assault—one in three adolescents in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal abuse. Moreover, studies show that girls of color who experience sexual abuse are more likely to end up in prison or experience repeat abuse than whites. While abuse negatively affects all victims, the problem is compounded for many girls who do not have adequate resources and support to cope and recover from their trauma. Moreover, these victims are often more exposed to perpetrators due to their living environment and economic circumstances.
Given these unwanted outcomes, there is a vital need to provide critical services for higher risk girls and women and for those who have experienced abuse.
The Royal Ones Sorority Program focuses on empowering young women and girls through training development, self-empowerment resources, and mentoring and ongoing guidance and support. Through TROS, young women are empowered to overcome abuse and low self-esteem and develop into strong, purpose-led leaders who make a difference in our communities.
Without the basic need of shelter, no one can reach their full potential. Castle Haven provides temporary living facilities for women and their children, while providing critical services such as counseling, rehabilitation, and workforce development to help women get back on their feet and thrive.
A key component of The Royal Ones Network programs is to deliver measurable social impact on the communities of which our participants live. As a result, we track social impact and outcomes to measure the impact of the program.
We periodically collect progress updates through exit interviews, phone calls, email, social media, and follow up mixer events. We have conducted 1 on 1 phone calls with over 150 participants.
